Device log and maintenance

Open Device Settings and choose Log or Maintenance. The log comes from the camera or recorder. Watchpost’s Events history and its connection journal are separate records.

Protocol Apple apps Android
Xiongmai Device log with CSV export; scheduled restart, old-recording cleanup and immediate restart Maintenance form for schedule/cleanup and restart; no equivalent log form
Hikvision / HiWatch, including Hik-Connect Device log and immediate restart Advanced settings; no equivalent log or maintenance form
ONVIF Immediate restart; no device-log form Advanced settings; no equivalent maintenance form

Available operations depend on device support and the current account’s permissions. Android also offers restart from supported devices’ menus; the form differences above do not describe every device-menu action.

Choose From and To, then Show to request that period. Watchpost uses the device’s time zone for the query and shows timestamps in its configured date format. Check device time if entries appear at an unexpected time.

Type and Search filter the entries already loaded. Search checks event data and the user field; it does not search the device’s whole log. Load More requests the next page. A filter with no matches on the loaded pages does not prove the entire period has no matching entries.

On Mac, the export button saves the currently filtered, loaded rows as CSV. On iPhone and iPad, use the share button. Load the pages you need before exporting. The CSV contains device timestamps and raw type identifiers; it can include account names or network addresses.

Select a type and a period: last hour, 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. Choose Read the Log to make a new request after changing these controls. Types include alarms, exceptions, operations and information.

Watchpost reads pages up to 1,000 entries and presents the loaded entries with the newest first. If it reports that only part of the period is shown, choose a shorter period. This cap can leave newer entries outside the loaded result. This form has no CSV export or free-text search.

The log is read on request and is not kept as a local history by this form. A permissions error can require a device administrator account. A device clock that is wrong can also put entries outside the requested period.

Choose Restart the Device…, then confirm Restart. The command sends immediately; it does not wait for Apply, save other pending edits or create a configuration backup. Canceling the confirmation prevents the command. Discard cannot undo a confirmed restart.

Video and recording pause while the device restarts. Allow a minute or two, with the actual time depending on the device. The restart command is sent confirms the request, not that the device has already returned. Check its connection and video afterward.

Finish unrelated settings edits before restarting. If the response is lost, the device may already be restarting; wait and check its availability before sending another command.

Automatic Restart selects Never, every day or a day of the week, with a whole-hour time from 00:00 to 23:00. The schedule follows the device clock. Choose a time when an interruption is acceptable.

Delete Old Recordings sets how many days the device keeps recordings before age-based cleanup. Never disables this age limit. Disk overwrite behavior still follows the device’s separate recording settings; Never does not guarantee that recordings remain indefinitely.

These schedule and cleanup fields are ordinary configuration drafts. Review them with Apply… → Write; on Android, use the corresponding review and write controls. Canceling the review leaves the draft, and Discard drops it. After a successful write, changing the setting back cannot recover recordings the device has already deleted. A configuration backup contains settings, not video.

Hikvision and ONVIF maintenance forms do not offer this Xiongmai schedule or cleanup policy.

For a saved configuration block, use Advanced editor and backups. For comparison history or a manufacturer’s original configuration file, see Compare configurations and Device configuration files. A user-list copy is not a full account restore.

The maintenance forms described here do not offer a factory reset, disk formatting, firmware-file upload or complete device restore. Some user-right labels refer to those device functions; a permission switch does not execute them. Xiongmai cloud firmware-update options belong to Network services. Updating Watchpost updates the app separately.

On Mac, Help → Show Connection Journal opens Watchpost’s local log folder for diagnosing connections. It does not open the recorder’s log or its recordings.
