Device compatibility

A camera’s brand and its connection protocol are different things. The same camera can offer the manufacturer’s protocol and ONVIF, with different features available through each connection. Choose a protocol that supports the task you need.

The table describes the Apple apps. The device must also provide the feature and allow your account to use it. Archive and work tools may depend on your build’s license.

Connection Default service port Live Camera control Archive Events Settings
Hikvision and HiWatch, ISAPI 80 Yes No Yes Yes Yes
Xiongmai, DVRIP 34567 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes
ONVIF Profile S 80; often 8899 on Xiongmai Yes Yes No No Selected sections
Hik-Connect account Vendor cloud Yes No Yes No Through the account
HTTP camera 80 Yes No No No No
Dahua’s own protocol Not supported No No No No No

Video transport ports can differ from the service port. For example, a device accessed through ISAPI can deliver live video over RTSP. Change a default only to match the device’s configuration.

Camera control also requires suitable hardware and the axes you select. ONVIF support does not mean Watchpost implements every ONVIF service: it does not read recordings or events through ONVIF.

Devices added by address have live view and snapshots. Compatible Xiongmai and Hikvision devices also have archive playback, export and events. Xiongmai and ONVIF have camera control.

Android’s settings differ from Apple’s. Xiongmai has Information, Date & Time, Maintenance, Users and Advanced Editor. Hikvision and ONVIF open the advanced editor rather than the complete set of native forms. Hik-Connect accounts, Cloud ID connections and HTTP-camera playback are not yet offered on Android.

Routers, switches and similar equipment can be saved in the registry with their connection details. They have no video tile or camera-settings protocol in Watchpost. See Add a device and Manage devices.
