These docs are not up to date yet. The app is moving faster than we can describe it. These pages cover Watchpost 0.1.0 alpha (build 444) and may be incomplete or out of date. Details

Storage and app lock

On Mac, open Settings (⌘,) → Storage. On iPhone, iPad and Android, open Storage from Devices. Storage settings concern the local Watchpost data, not the disks inside a recorder.

The screen reports whether the registry and configuration backups are encrypted. On Apple devices, the storage key is kept in the Keychain. If the Keychain could not retain a key, the app can report that storage is not encrypted; check the status rather than assuming encryption is active. Android uses the system Keystore to protect its storage key.

Storage encryption and app lock serve different purposes. Encryption protects saved files. App lock asks you to authenticate before using the open application.

Open the recovery-key action and complete the owner check. Copy the key to a password manager or keep it securely elsewhere. It is needed if the system loses the storage key. Anyone who has both the recovery key and the storage files can read them.

The key is for this Watchpost storage. It is not a camera password, a file-export password or a license code.

Enable app lock on a device with a system password or passcode. Watchpost uses the system’s available authentication method. On Apple devices, the device password or passcode can be used when biometrics are unavailable.

On Mac, the app locks at launch and after the Mac sleeps, the screen locks or Watchpost is hidden. When app lock is enabled, Lock Watchpost (⌃⌘L) also locks it manually. On iPhone and iPad, authentication is requested when you return to the app. Streams stop behind the lock screen.

The separate owner-check setting on Apple controls confirmation for sensitive operations such as showing the recovery key, exporting or restoring configuration. It does not itself enable the app’s entry lock.

When the storage key is missing, Watchpost cannot open the saved registry. Enter the recovery key on the Storage Is Locked screen. An app-unlock password cannot replace the missing storage key.

Start Over… creates an empty registry instead. On Apple, the previous locked files are moved aside rather than opened. Keep a copy of those files if you may later recover their key.

Reset Configuration… removes local devices, sites and cloud accounts, their saved credentials, configuration snapshots and event history. Review the confirmation and use Export First… if you want a transfer copy and that tool is available in your build.

The reset does not write settings to cameras or routers, delete recorder footage or remove tunnels already configured on routers. It also does not replace the recovery key. Resetting Watchpost is different from resetting a camera to factory settings.
