Alarms and event actions

Open Device Settings and look in Events. The Apple apps offer Xiongmai alarm inputs and outputs, disk events and network events according to device support. Hikvision groups its own faults in Exceptions and provides reactions for supported channel events. It has no dedicated alarm-input/output forms here. ONVIF has no equivalent alarm forms; Android uses the advanced editor for supported blocks.

Select Alarm Inputs, choose the input and turn on Use this input. Match the sensor type to the connected contact:

Sensor type Alarm condition
Normally open The contact closes
Normally closed The contact opens

Set the event schedule and the actions below it. Hours follow the device clock; see Detection and video analytics for the schedule editor’s precision and limits. Copy to Other Inputs… copies the selected input’s settings into a draft for the other inputs. Review their sensor types before writing.

The form configures the device’s existing inputs. It does not add physical inputs to a camera or recorder.

In Xiongmai’s Alarm Outputs, choose a mode for each available output:

  • Automatic lets event actions activate the relay.
  • Always on keeps it on regardless of event actions.
  • Off prevents event actions from activating it.

These changes wait for Apply… → Write. To drive a relay from an event, leave it Automatic, then enable the output action in that event, choose the outputs and set the hold time where available. An output forced on or off overrides that event action.

Xiongmai’s Disk Events separates no disk, disk failure and low free space. Choose the fault, enable its reaction and configure the actions. Low space can offer a percentage threshold; a disk-error block can offer a restart-on-error switch. Review that switch carefully: it can interrupt viewing and recording when the fault occurs.

Network Events separates link loss and an IP address conflict. During a link outage, the device cannot deliver network notifications until connectivity returns. Use available local actions such as its buzzer or relay for an immediate on-site indication.

Hikvision’s Exceptions can include Disk Full, Disk Error, Network Disconnected, IP Address Conflict, Failed Sign-in and Recording Failure. Only supported faults and reactions appear. These are device-level faults; a recording failure is not the same event as a camera losing video.

The same action form serves motion, analytics and other supported events. A field appears only when the device supplies it.

Action Related setting
Record Select the channels and, if offered, the time to keep recording after the event
Take a snapshot Select the channels; snapshots go to device storage
Switch on an alarm output Select the relays and hold time; their mode must allow automatic operation
Tour on the monitor Select the recorder channels to show on its attached monitor
PTZ Choose a preset, tour or pattern and its number for the relevant camera
Notifications Mail, FTP, vendor mobile cloud or the vendor-protocol alarm server
On-device indication Available monitor messages, buzzer/beep, voice alert or device log

Repeat interval, when offered, limits how soon the device reports a new event. It does not set the recording length or the relay hold time.

A Record switch also needs suitable recording settings and working storage. Device snapshots are separate from saving a frame in Watchpost. A PTZ action needs a camera that supports the chosen operation and has the corresponding preset or tour.

Reactions lists the actions reported by the device, retaining existing ones. Recording targets the event’s own channel or the camera’s memory card. Reactions the form cannot edit, including recording other channels, appear under Other reactions.

Enable Report to Events to have the device send the event to Watchpost’s event connection. This is the manufacturer’s Notify Surveillance Center action, and it also causes notification to Hik-Connect. It does not create a Watchpost cloud event feed.

Xiongmai’s vendor-cloud and alarm-server switches do not control Watchpost’s direct event reception. To receive events, keep the device monitored by the app as described in Events. Mail, FTP and vendor notifications require their own services.

Apply opens a review, and Write sends the pending blocks. Successful writes remain in effect if another block fails. Check the reread values, then test the relevant input or fault under controlled conditions. Backups restore configuration blocks through a new review; they do not undo a relay activation, restart or message already sent.
