Site plans
A site plan places cameras on a floor drawing or territory image. Each plan belongs to a site. A camera can have both geographic coordinates and a point on a plan; changing one does not clear the other.
Create plans and edit their camera positions on Mac. The Apple mobile maps can display saved plans, but do not provide the Mac plan editor. Android does not currently offer this interface.
Create a plan
Section titled “Create a plan”- Open Devices and find the site in the sidebar. If needed, create a site and move devices into it.
- Open the site’s context menu and choose Site Plans….
- In the add menu, choose From a File… for a PNG, JPEG, HEIC or PDF drawing, or Blank Plan for an empty background.
- Name the plan. Set North with the dial or degree field so viewing sectors follow the drawing’s orientation.
- Adjust Backdrop and Brightness for readability. Inverted can make a light drawing easier to read in the dark interface.
- Save, then open the plan from Plans on the registry map.
Adding a drawing does not assign geographic coordinates to the site or its devices. Use Place… for those coordinates.
Typical floors and separate copies
Section titled “Typical floors and separate copies”With a plan selected, the add menu can create another floor using the same picture or a copy with its own picture. Floors sharing a picture keep separate device positions. Replacing their shared source picture affects the floors using it.
Use Detach… to give a shared floor its own copy before changing its drawing independently. Review the selected floor and picture-sharing note before replacing a file.
Place cameras on the plan
Section titled “Place cameras on the plan”In Devices → Map, open the required site plan and choose Edit Plan. The Not on the Plan list shows the site’s devices and recorder channels that have no position on any of its plans. The current device filter and search can affect what is available here.
Drag an item onto the drawing and confirm Put. Drag an existing marker to propose another position, then confirm Move. Cancel discards that proposed move. If cameras belong on another floor, select that floor before placing them, or use Move to Floor in a marker’s menu and confirm the new position.
Select a camera marker to adjust its viewing sector with the handles. Direction changes take effect when you finish the drag; they have no separate move confirmation. The plan’s north setting determines how the sector aligns with the drawing. These edits change the description in Watchpost, without moving the physical camera.
Choose Done to leave editing. It closes editing controls; it does not undo positions and directions you have already saved.
Remove a marker or plan
Section titled “Remove a marker or plan”Remove from Plan clears an item’s position on that plan. The device stays in the registry and keeps any geographic point.
To remove a whole plan, open Site Plans…, select it and choose Delete Plan…. Review the confirmation, then save the plan list. Devices remain in the registry, but the removed plan no longer shows their positions. Place them on another plan if needed. Other floors sharing its picture keep that picture.
View and transfer
Section titled “View and transfer”Open a floor through Plans on the Live map to view its cameras. Use the floor list to move between plans. A plan without geographic coordinates can still show cameras; it does not need a location on the world map.
For transfer to another Watchpost installation, use a registry file with the layout included. QR codes do not carry site plans.
