These docs are not up to date yet. The app is moving faster than we can describe it. These pages cover Watchpost 0.1.0 alpha (build 444) and may be incomplete or out of date. Details
Update Watchpost
Direct builds on Mac and Android can check the version list on watchpost.app and announce a newer compatible build. Watchpost opens the download page when you ask; it does not download or install an update itself.
Store builds use their store’s update process. The in-app website check is absent there. iPhone and iPad do not have this direct-build update checker.
Check manually
Section titled “Check manually”On Mac, choose Watchpost → Check for Updates…. You can also open Settings → General and choose Check Now beside the last-check date.
On Android, open the Devices menu and choose Check for Updates…. The Plan & License screen also has an Updates section with a check action when the direct-build checker is available.
The result appears in a card:
| Result | What to do |
|---|---|
| A version is out | Read the release notes and choose Open Download Page to continue in a browser |
| Watchpost is up to date | No newer eligible build was found in the version list |
| Could not check | Check connectivity and retry; this result says nothing about whether a newer build exists |
| This version cannot read the list | Use Open Download Page to get a version that understands the newer list format |
Opening the page leaves the current app running. Download and install the build using the page’s instructions, then check the installed version in About Watchpost. This check does not update camera firmware or your hub.
Automatic checks and reminders
Section titled “Automatic checks and reminders”Check for updates automatically starts on by default. Mac checks at launch, then periodically while it stays running, roughly daily. Android starts its check shortly after launch and follows the same schedule while running. This does not promise a check while the phone app is stopped or suspended.
Turn the switch off in Mac’s General settings or Android’s Updates section to stop automatic requests. Manual checking still works. The last-check date records a successful read of the version list; a failed request does not advance it.
Not Now, or opening the download page, dismisses that build’s automatic announcement. Watchpost can announce a newer build later. Check manually to see the dismissed update again.
Which builds appear
Section titled “Which builds appear”The checker chooses the newest eligible version with a file for your platform. It skips withdrawn builds and builds whose listed minimum major OS version is newer than your system. The compatibility filter cannot guarantee that every feature will work on your hardware.
Release stages advance from alpha through beta and rc to a release. An installed release receives release updates; it does not move to an alpha or beta. A test build can receive newer builds at its own stage or a later one. The full version, including the build number, matters when comparing results.
Updates and the license
Section titled “Updates and the license”In direct builds, a new version can include features covered by Updates and services. If its release date falls after your update term, the card can list additions that require renewal and offer Renew Updates…. Fixes and the build download remain available.
The update notice and a license activation perform separate tasks. Downloading a new build does not itself renew the update term. See Account and license to review the plan and its dates.
