Organize devices into sites

A site groups devices installed in one place, such as a shop or an office. Each device belongs to one site or No Site. Cameras, recorders and network equipment can share a site. A camera set is a separate selection for viewing; it does not change site membership.

A site can also hold connection paths, a shared map location and plans. Creating one does not set up remote access or change the devices themselves.

On Mac, open Devices → New Site…, or use the add button beside Sites in the Devices sidebar. Enter a name and choose Add. The new site opens in Devices, initially without devices or routes. An empty site does not appear in Live.

On iPhone and iPad, choose New Site… from Storage and Exchange in Devices. You can also create a site from a device’s Site submenu and assign that device to it at once.

On Apple platforms, Watchpost trims spaces around the name and ignores an empty name. If a site already has that name, ignoring letter case, creation uses the existing site. In a move operation, the selected devices then join that site. To rename a site, open its menu and choose Rename…. Renaming keeps its devices and connection settings; it can produce matching names, so use names you can tell apart.

Creating, renaming and deleting sites require an unlocked storage.

The Apple add forms offer a Site field once a site exists. For saved devices on Mac:

  1. Open Devices and select one or several rows.
  2. Open their menu and choose Move to Site.
  3. Choose a site, No Site, or New Site… to name a site for the selection.

For one device, you can also change Site in its card. On iPhone and iPad, choose the destination in the device menu’s Site submenu. Choosing a destination saves the assignment immediately. Canceling the new-site name dialog leaves the assignment unchanged.

A move keeps the saved device address and login. Routes stay with their sites. If either site has routes, moving a device can restart its connection using the destination site’s path, interrupting viewing. No Site removes the assignment and the former site’s route no longer applies. Check that the device is reachable from its new site.

Moving devices into a site does not update the router’s script. For access through a hub, review the site’s router setup after changing its devices; see Connect a site. Choose or edit its paths in Site connection paths.

On Apple platforms, a device without its own coordinates uses its site’s map point. Moving it changes that inherited point; choosing No Site removes that source of coordinates. The device’s own coordinates and viewing direction remain saved.

Plans belong to their site. Moving a device does not place it on a plan of the destination site. Review the device and its recorder channels after a move and place them on the appropriate plans. See Cameras on a map and Site plans.

On Mac, open the site’s menu in the Devices sidebar and choose Delete Site. On iPhone and iPad, use the menu beside its heading. Review the confirmation before choosing Delete.

The devices stay in the registry under No Site, with their saved addresses and logins. Their Live selection stays as it was. The app removes the site with its routes, shared location and plan list, and deletes its local route tokens and tunnel keys. Devices that relied on the site’s map point lose that inherited location. Their own saved places remain; check their plan placement before using it again.

Devices that relied on the deleted site’s route can lose connectivity. Deleting the site locally does not remove it from the hub or revoke other people’s access. Removing a site on the hub is a separate operation with wider consequences; see Remove a site.

In Devices, choose New Site… from the toolbar menu. Enter a name and create the site; the app then opens its connection settings. Android accepts separate sites with the same name. Use the menu beside a site’s heading to rename or remove it.

To move a saved device, choose Move to Site… in its menu, then a site or No Site. This moves one device at a time and restarts its connection. The Android address-based add form has no site selector; assign the site after adding the device, or use the site choice in batch entry.

Removal keeps the devices and deletes the site’s local routes and keys. Android does not currently offer the Apple map and plan interface. Site creation and changes require unlocked storage here too.
