These docs are not up to date yet. The app is moving faster than we can describe it. These pages cover Watchpost 0.1.0 alpha (build 444) and may be incomplete or out of date. Details
Inbox
Inbox is available in builds with a Watchpost account. On Mac, select Inbox in the main window; on mobile, open the Inbox tab. If your build has no account service, this section is absent. A Watchpost account is separate from a Hik-Connect account used to connect cameras.
Section titled “Sign in”Use the sign-in action and follow the email-code form. On Mac, account sign-in opens the relevant app settings. On mobile, Inbox has its own sign-in screen. Request a code for your email address, then enter the received code. The screen reports delivery or sign-in errors; sending another code does not grant access to cameras by itself.
Account sign-in, trial and activation controls are described in Account and license. Signing in on a build with licensing can also activate the account’s only usable license.
Received and sent items
Section titled “Received and sent items”Switch between Received and Sent. Items are grouped by day and show their sender or recipient, subject and status. Open one to read its details and available actions.
An invitation and a package of devices are different items:
- An invitation asks whether you want the offered access. Choose Accept or Decline.
- Acceptance can leave an action for the sender: they still need to grant access and send the protected device package.
- A received package can be added to this installation. Review its devices and import choices before adding them.
Accepting an invitation does not immediately add cameras to the grid. After adding a package, check that the devices are in Live or Cameras and that the needed credentials and routes work.
Track what you sent
Section titled “Track what you sent”Sent items show whether a person is waiting, accepted, declined, received access or had access revoked or expired. Available actions depend on the item’s status and your rights. On Mac, accepted invitations can offer Give Access…; review the sites and whether to include device passwords before sending the access package. See People and invitations for the Mac workflow, terms and revocation.
Hub access and Hik-Connect sharing use different controls. Do not assume a change to one revokes access given through the other. Removing a device from your local registry also does not revoke another person’s permissions.
When an item cannot be added
Section titled “When an item cannot be added”Check the account you are signed in to, the item’s status and the error shown in its details. A package protected for another installation or an invitation that was revoked may require a new action from the sender. A build without the account service cannot receive these items; file and QR transfer are separate tools with their own availability requirements.
For the complete sender and recipient sequence, see Share access to devices. Center-managed hub access currently needs Mac to obtain and refresh its route token; mobile package import alone does not complete that connection.
