These docs are not up to date yet. The app is moving faster than we can describe it. These pages cover Watchpost 0.1.0 alpha (build 444) and may be incomplete or out of date. Details

Mac menus and shortcuts

These shortcuts describe the Mac app. ⌘ means Command, ⌥ Option, ⇧ Shift and ⌃ Control. The menu bar shows the commands available in your current build and window. Mobile apps use tabs and on-screen menus; this page does not specify a Windows or Android keyboard map.

Shortcut Command and context
⌘1 / ⌘2 / ⌘3 / ⌘4 Live / Archive / Events / Devices
⌘5 Inbox, in builds that offer it
⌥⌘M Map, in Live when placed devices are available and no single camera is open; in Devices when the registry is not empty
⌥⌘1 View → Set → All, when a user-created set exists
⌥⌘2…9 First eight user-created camera sets, in list order
⌃⌘S Show or hide the sidebar
⌥⌘← / ⌥⌘→ Collapse / expand all devices in the Live sidebar
⌃⌘I Calendar and Clips, in the available Archive view
⌥⌘L Downloads, in Archive or when download jobs exist

Choose sets outside Devices mode. View → Set also offers New Set and Edit Set; editing requires a user-created set to be current. Sets beyond the first eight remain available by menu.

View → Grid chooses layout and SD/HD for the grid. It is unavailable while a single camera or the map replaces the grid. Cameras in Grid controls channel visibility. Show All Devices applies to the Live map and adds placed registry devices as outlines. See Camera sets and Maps.

In Live, the Camera menu acts on the opened camera or the selected channel. In Archive, snapshot and sound act on playback.

Shortcut Command and context
⌘Return Open the selected Live camera
Escape All Cameras, from a single-camera view
⌘[ / ⌘] Previous / next Live camera; requires another camera, or a camera to start from
⇧⌘S Save Snapshot; requires playing live video or an archive frame
⇧⌘M Turn Sound On / Off; requires playing live video, or an archive recording with audio at a supported speed

Camera → Stream chooses main or sub stream for the Live camera. Show in Grid applies to a selected grid camera, and Show in Archive opens its archive path. Actual archive support still depends on the device and connection. These commands have no assigned shortcut in this menu.

Shortcut Action
Space Play / pause
← / → Back / forward 10 seconds
[ / ] Previous / next clip
. Next frame, while paused
⌘T Today
⌘E Export…

Playback controls need loaded recordings in an available Archive view. Choosing a day needs an archive-capable channel. Archive also offers speed, Skip Gaps Between Clips, neighboring days and the oldest/newest recording when the device reports those limits. An Export command with a lock opens the license explanation.

The unmodified bracket keys move between clips; Command with brackets moves between Live cameras. If a text field has focus, finish editing or move focus back to the view before using playback keys.

Shortcut Command and context
⌘N Add Device…, in Devices mode
⌥⌘N Add Network Equipment…, in Devices mode
⇧⌘N Add Several…, in Devices mode
⌥⌘, Device Settings…, for a device with settings
⌘R Refresh Channels, for a device in Live
⌘D Duplicate…, when duplication is allowed for the device

In Devices mode, select exactly one registry entry for individual device commands. In other modes, the device comes from the current channel. Account licensing can also affect equipment, bulk-add and registry tools.

The Devices menu additionally offers Configuration Snapshots, Rename, Connection, Restart the Device, registry import/export, QR-image import, New Site, Cloud Accounts and Hubs. Check the selected device and permissions before using them. See Device list.

⌘O opens a local video file. ⌘, opens app settings. ⌃⌘L locks or unlocks Watchpost when app lock is enabled. In device settings, ⌘S opens the review for pending configuration changes. It does not write until you confirm the review.

A separate window, such as device settings or a local video player, does not supply the main window’s camera and playback context. Main-window commands can become unavailable while it is in front. A locked main window also supplies no context. Select the main window, unlock it if needed, then select the required mode, device or camera.

Buttons inside sheets can assign their own shortcuts. For example, ⌘D fills the current cell from the row above in Add Several, and ⌥Return adds the device and keeps Add Device open for another. Read the active sheet’s labels before using a shortcut from the main menu.
